Elon Musk is still cutting off Twitter staff, as scores of people were laid out last week across sales and engineering departments, including one of Musk’s direct reporting executives directing engineering for Twitter’s ads business.
According to The Verge, the new Twitter CEO has gone through at least three rounds of layoffs.
This is despite his commitment not to fire any more staff following his savage layoff in November, which affected two-thirds of the microblogging platform’s 7,500 employees.
During a meeting with staff, Musk said that Twitter is now actively hiring for positions in engineering and sales. He also requested that staff members recommend potential applicants.
Musk, on the other hand, fires staff on a regular basis.
As part of Elon Musk’s quest to slash expenses and make the faltering social media service viable, Twitter has closed two of its three India offices and directed employees to work from home. Twitter has closed its offices in New Delhi and Mumbai, India’s financial capital. Musk laid off more than 90% of its employees in India, numbering in the hundreds. Musk has also issued an internal directive to modify how adverts are targeted in Twitter’s main feed within a week. But Marcin Kadluczka, Musk’s laid-off engineering manager for monetisation, tweeted that this was impossible. “I believe Twitter can significantly improve ads in 2-3 months (not necessarily in a week),” Kadluczka wrote.
