How to Move Chrome Address Bar to Bottom on iPhone

by | Nov 28, 2023

Google has announced that its Chrome browser for iOS now allows users to move the address bar from the top of the screen to the bottom. This feature was initially noticed in a beta version of the browser earlier this year (2023), and it has now (in October 2023) been widely released. I already have access to this feature on my phone without needing to update my browser.

This change is optional, and by default, the address bar still remains at the top in my Chrome app. However, you can move it to the bottom.

What Are the Benefits of Moving Chrome Address Bar to Bottom on iPhone?

Moving the Chrome address bar to the bottom of the screen on your iPhone can offer several benefits:

  • Improved Reachability: Placing the address bar at the bottom makes it easier to access with your thumb, especially on larger devices. This can be particularly useful for one-handed use, as it reduces the need to stretch your fingers or adjust your grip to reach the top of the screen.
  • Enhanced User Experience: By moving the address bar to the bottom, it brings commonly used controls, such as the search bar and navigation buttons, closer to your natural hand position. This can result in a more intuitive and efficient browsing experience, as you can interact with these elements more comfortably and quickly.
  • Convenience: With the address bar at the bottom, you can navigate and perform searches without having to adjust your hand position or reach for the top of the screen. This can save you time and effort, especially when browsing websites or searching for information frequently.
  • Customization: Moving the address bar to the bottom provides users with more control and customization options. It allows you to personalize your browsing experience based on your preferences and ergonomic needs. You can choose the location that works best for you, whether it’s at the top or the bottom of the screen.
  • Accessibility: For individuals with mobility or dexterity challenges, having the address bar at the bottom can improve accessibility. It reduces the strain and effort required to interact with the browser’s controls, making it more convenient for users with limited reach or motor skills.
