How to Use Apple Pay on iPhone | 2024

by | Jan 23, 2024

Apple Pay has been available in the U.S. since October 2014 and in the U.K. since July 2015, with more countries joining later. Since it’s an Apple product, you might expect it to be easy to use, right? Well, for the most part, yes.

But I’ve noticed that many people I’ve spoken to (a lot, actually) don’t use it because they find the details confusing or they make mistakes and it doesn’t work. After going through that experience, they don’t want to feel embarrassed at the checkout again. Or maybe they avoid using it because it takes too long to use at subway stations, and they get annoyed with people behind them.

If you’re one of those people, don’t worry. After reading this guide, you’ll feel comfortable using Apple Pay. And if you’re already familiar with it, there might be some useful tips here that you can share with your cautious friends.

This guide focuses on how to use Apple Pay on iPhone since that’s the most popular way people use it. Throughout the article, I’ve included questions that others have asked me, so maybe you have the same queries too.

What is Apple Pay?

Apple Pay is a digital payment service provided by Apple. It allows users to make secure and convenient payments using their Apple devices, such as iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and Mac. With Apple Pay, you can link your credit or debit cards to your device and use it to make purchases in stores, apps, and websites that accept Apple Pay.

When making a payment with Apple Pay, you can simply hold your device near a contactless payment terminal or use it to authorize transactions within apps or websites. The payment information is securely stored on the device and transmitted using tokenization, which helps protect your card details.

Apple Pay also offers additional features, such as person-to-person payments through Apple Cash, the ability to store and use digital loyalty cards, and integration with other Apple services like Apple Maps for finding nearby stores that accept Apple Pay.
