The minister did not rule out the possibility of a ban on the Chinese-owned social media app, telling Times Radio that he would wait for proof before making a decision. Just one day after Prime Minister Rishi Sunak stated that the UK will consider what the United States, the European Union, and Canada had done to prohibit TikTok on government phones.
TikTok has been accused of selling user data to the Chinese authorities. The startup claims to operate in the same manner as other social media organizations.
Mr. Tugendhat told Times Radio, “We need to ensure our phones are not malware.” It is critical to know the issues these apps offer, what they ask for, and how they enter our life. “That is why I have requested that the National Cyber Security Centre investigate this.” When asked on Monday whether the UK would ban TikTok from government phones and gadgets, Mr. Sunak responded, “We take device security seriously, and we look at what our partners are doing.” According to the prime minister’s deputy spokesman, government ministries have “strong protocols” to ensure cyber-security.

European Commission to delete TikTok On government devices

Last month, the European Commission instructed its 32,000 employees to delete the TikTok software from devices as quickly as possible but no later than March 15.
The White House instructed US government employees to delete the site from their work devices in 30 days.
President Donald Trump attempted to enact a blanket ban, but the courts eventually denied it. 

The Indian government banned Chinese applications

The Indian government was more effective, banning 59 Chinese-made apps, including TikTok, by 2020. TikTok, like most other social media firms, collects massive amounts of data about its users, such as their location and other apps they use. Nevertheless, because TikTok is owned by the Beijing-based internet firm ByteDance, there have been concerns that it may provide information to the Chinese government.

Georgia University report

According to Georgia University of Technology researchers, the law also provides user rights protections, and TikTok says Chinese workers cannot access the data of non-China users. However, it was revealed in December that certain ByteDance workers had access to the data of at least two US journalists and a “limited number” of others to track their whereabouts and determine whether they were meeting TikTok personnel suspected of leaking material to the media.
According to TikTok, the employees who accessed the material were later fired.
