TikTok’s For You Page Shows Why a Video Is Recommended
TikTok’s For You Page, which is the first screen that users see after opening the app, will explain to users why a particular video was included in their feed by the app’s algorithm. Users are able to get this data by tapping a new option in the share panel titled “Why this video,” which brings up the explanation. When you tap the button, a pop-over box will open that contains a list of the reasons why TikTok recommends the video. TikTok may recommend a video for the following reasons, among others:
- Interactions with users, such as content that they view, like, or share; comments that they write; searches that they conduct;
- accounts that you already follow or accounts that have been recommended to you
- Recent content added in your region on the internet.
- Content that is popular in your region
If you come across a video on the page titled “For You” that does not match to your interests, you will now have the ability to learn more about the reasoning behind the recommendation. This feature may prove to be a helpful approach for social media marketers and content creators to have a better understanding of how the TikTok algorithm works.
The mindset behind this feature
When you know how a video got into your feed, you can use that knowledge to develop content that gets into the feeds of people who follow you. TikTok revealed the inner workings of its TikTok’s For You page in a blog post that was released in the year 2020. The post discussed the parameters that the website’s algorithm uses to choose which pieces of content to recommend to users. Therefore, the information is not classified; nonetheless, it is now much easier to get.
In addition, it is possible that seeing the content in its original setting will be more beneficial. For instance, if one of the reasons why a video is recommended to you is that it has “popular content in your region,” then watching that video can help you in remaining up to date with the topics that are of interest to your local audience. You could take the video that is now on your For You page and use it to create a duet with another video if you wanted to potentially target the same group of visitors. Another option is to produce a new video using the audio track from a well-known video and then use that track. TikTok provides users with a number of different options for generating content from pre-existing videos, and this feature can serve as an entirely new source of inspiration.
