Twitter’s account suspension policy will undergo significant changes beginning February 1. Twitter says it is taking a more nuanced approach to rules infractions, preferring to limit the reach of particular tweets rather than eliminating accounts. Just recently, Twitter safety account announced their all new suspended accounts appeal process as you can see down below.
Twitter will henceforth only suspend accounts for serious or continuous, repeat violations of its policies. significant violations include, but are not limited to, engaging in illegal content or conduct, inciting or threatening violence or injury, violating the privacy, manipulating or spamming platforms, and harassing users.
Twitter is proactively reinstating previously suspended accounts, but accounts involved in criminal conduct, threats of damage or violence, large-scale spam, or platform manipulation will not be reinstated. The company’s new account suspension policy tries to strike a balance between encouraging healthy online debate and protecting users from harm.
Twitter thinks that these improvements would give a more equitable and transparent means for users to reestablish their accounts, which it did not previously provide. Users are advised to become acquainted with the new criteria and to file an appeal if they believe their accounts were suspended unfairly.
Before making a judgment, a cross-functional team considers each case independently. Twitter evaluates the possible impact on the broader public, the source of the posted content, and the availability of alternative coverage of an event when making content judgments.
