WhatsApp Web Introduces Username-Based Search Feature

WhatsApp is working on a new feature for WhatsApp Web that aims to increase privacy for users. Currently, to connect with others on WhatsApp, users need to share their phone numbers. However, the upcoming feature will allow users to search for others on the platform using usernames instead of phone numbers.

This means that users can connect with people without having to share their phone numbers with those they don’t want to. This username-based search feature is expected to enhance privacy and promote secure communication. A screenshot of the feature shows that users will be able to search for others using their name, phone number, or username.

This feature is already available on Telegram, a competing messaging platform. The report also mentions that WhatsApp is working on allowing users to create and change their usernames on WhatsApp Web.
