Who is Twitter’s new CEO: Linda Yaccarino

Elon Musk said on Thursday that he has chosen a new CEO for Twitter and that he would shift to the job of chief technology officer (CTO). Linda Yaccarino, the former head of advertising at NBCUniversal, will be the new CEO of Twitter, its current CEO Elon Musk said in a Tweet on Friday.

Everything there is to know about Linda Yaccarino

According to her LinkedIn profile, Yaccarino has been at NBCUniversal for almost 11 years. She was the company’s chairman of worldwide advertising and partnerships. Between 1992 and 2011, she worked for the American television and media company Turner Broadcasting System for nearly 19 years before joining NBCUniversal.

According to her profile, Yaccarino studied liberal arts and telecommunications at Penn State University.

She served as the “strategic and operational bridge” across NBCUniversal’s global networks, franchises, and business units. “She is in charge of the company’s market-leading portfolio of linear networks, digital and streaming platforms, distribution partnerships, and client relationships.” According to the company’s website, Yaccarino “oversees all global, national, and local ad sales, partnerships, marketing, ad tech, data, measurement, and strategic initiatives.”

She’s also credited with “over $100 billion in ad sales.”

Yaccarino has been named one of the “Top 10 People Transforming Advertising” by Business Insider. She spoke with Musk last month at an advertising conference in Miami. Yaccarino pushed the audience to applaud Musk and praised his work ethic at the conference.

“Many of you in this room know me, and you know I pride myself on my work ethic,” she added, before adding, “Buddy, I met my match.”

An NBCUniversal official informed Reuters that “Linda is in back-to-back rehearsals for the Upfront” (the Upfront is a presentation NBCUniversal will host for advertisers in New York on Monday).

The announcement comes months after Musk stated in December that he would step down as CEO once “someone foolish enough to take the job” was discovered.

Musk announced in a tweet on Thursday that “she will be starting in 6 weeks!”
He also stated that he will continue to serve as executive chair and “CTO” of Twitter, as well as manage its product and software.
Musk has long stated that he intends to recruit a new CEO for Twitter. In a December poll on the microblogging platform, 57.5% of those who voted wanted him to resign as CEO of the social media company.
Twitter announced earlier this week the addition of encrypted direct messages, as well as plans for audio and video call functionality.

According to Insider Intelligence, the San Francisco-based company, which earns the majority of its revenue from advertising, is expected to earn less than $3 billion in 2023, down from $4 billion in 2022.
