Twitter's Two-factor authentication

Exciting news! Twitter announced that, starting March 20, only Twitter Blue subscribers will be able to use text messages as their two-factor authentication method to secure their accounts. By utilizing two-factor authentication, Twitter is committed to making their accounts even more secure by requiring account holders to use an additional authentication method in addition to a password.

Types of Two Factor Authentication (2FA)

Twitter now offers 3-types of Two Factor Authentication (2FA):

  • text message,
  • authentication app,
  • and security key!

We’re thrilled to announce that the company is taking steps to protect our users from potential “bad actors,” as mentioned in the recent blog post.

The Blue Checkmark Available to Everyone

Elon Musk, the owner of Twitter, excitedly tweeted “Yup!” in response to news that the company was altering their policy due to Telcos utilizing Bot Accounts to Pump 2FA (two-factor authentication) SMS. The company previously took a toll of $60 million annually on scam SMS. Furthermore, the blue checkmark, traditionally exclusive to verified accounts of celebrities, journalists, politicians, and other public figures, is now available to everyone keen to pay.

Twitter Blue Subscription Rate

Exciting news! Last month, Twitter announced that the price for their Twitter Blue subscription for Android and iOS would be the same – only $11 a month!
